As many of you know, we have a Great Dane named Ella. What many of you do not realize is that Ella and Sarah were born the same year. Ella is older than Sarah by nearly 8 months.
Ella was just a puppy when I saw for her the first time. She had already sustained her eye injury and so it was swollen and ugly,. She was the runt and was easy to lost...she got sat on frequently by her parents. Her crazy personality had not yet developed. We had gone to see friends of ours to tell them we were going to have a baby. Jim held Ella that day and while I thought she was downright adorable, we were not getting a Great Dane.
Fast forward a month to May when my husband informs me we are getting a dog and from where. I asked him which one. He said, "The one with the funky eye." I asked why. His reply hit the nerve in my heart where he knew it would and said, "No one wants it." I am the queen of loving the unloved. If you tell me no ones loves it, I will love it to death because I don't want any creature to be unloved.
We get Ella (notice the choice of name) and she is the craziest creature in the world and she was so very excited for a human sibling. While I was pregnant, she would jump onto the couch and flip my right arm up so she could put her head against my belly under my breasts and snuggle with the baby.
Ella has been a source of comic relief which I will tell about in a future post.
